Bombay Restaurant and Buffet sits unassumingly along Historic Route 66 in Gallup, New Mexico, offering a straightforward, no-frills setting that focuses attention squarely on its Indian cuisine. This full-service restaurant caters to those looking for hearty, flavorful meals with generous portions — a draw for both locals craving authentic Indian dishes and travelers passing through.

The interior is practical rather than polished, and visitors should be prepared for a dining space that feels a bit dated, with occasional maintenance issues noted, especially in areas like the restrooms and parking lot. Despite this, the tables are kept clean and the staff is known to be welcoming, creating a comfortable enough environment to enjoy a meal without distraction.

Food-wise, Bombay Restaurant and Buffet leans into classic Indian favorites, with highlights including Butter Chicken, Chicken Biryani, and traditional breads like Garlic and Plain Naan. The dishes arrive warm and well-seasoned, with options to tailor the spice level — a helpful touch given the varying tolerance for heat among diners. The menu covers a broad spectrum, from charcoal clay-oven specialties like Chicken Tandoori to vegetarian offerings such as Malai Kofta and Saag Paneer. Portions here are notably generous, often leaving enough to take home, which adds value for hungry eaters.

This spot is especially well-suited to those who appreciate flavorful, richly spiced curries and rice dishes served in a casual environment. It's a practical choice for anyone traveling through Gallup who wants a solid, comforting Indian meal without fuss or pretense. Lunchtime or early dinner are good windows for visits, when the kitchen is in full swing and the food comes out hot and fresh.

While the location’s proximity to a truck stop might feel a little offbeat or sketchy to some, the quality of the food offsets this. Those prioritizing ambiance over cuisine might look elsewhere, but for authentic tastes and hearty servings that comfortably feed a group, Bombay Restaurant and Buffet delivers without complication.

Food is excellent! Parking lot pavement bad, restroom disgusting. Minimally have the restrooms cleaned more often would really help this establishment.

It's not bad at all, the tables are clean, the food is delicious, the staff is friendly. I had lamb curry and garlic bread. Everything was delicious, honestly, I haven't had such delicious bread in a long time. A renovation would certainly be nice, an update would be nice.

Best Indian food I have had in the Western US. We ordered way too much because we were starving but found the portions very large. Ended up with doggie bags. Tell the server how spicy you want your food. I ordered medium & it was perfect. Hubby ordered hot & he said it was perfect. Everything cooked to perfection, sauces tasted & full of flavor. The mango Lassi was thin & with ice cubes... very different from what we are used to. But they tasted great. In the end, we ate it all. Excellent food. Service was super attentive, very quick, & very friendly. While waiting for our food we watched about twenty truckers, mostly Indian, come & pick up takeaway so we knew it would be good. The place is very run down. They need to invest in their building, for sure. But the service, food quality, & portion size are top notch. Highly recommend!

Honestly, this restaurant is in a truck stop and the location feels kinda sketch, but don’t let that stop you. The food is the absolute best! The flavors jump off the utensil. We got the Vegetable Pakorm Chicken Tikki Masala, Chicken Curry & Dal Makhani, along with the Garlic and Onion Nan. We topped the meal off with the Mango Lasi. Nothing was a miss! Great meal!

Don't let the unassuming exterior of this place fool you; definitely give it a try! I was a little unsure about what to order at first, so I did a little research. I ended up getting the chicken masala with white rice and a side of garlic naan, and it was the perfect choice. The food was served incredibly warm and was absolutely delicious. The entire experience was great, from ordering at the counter to being shown to a table. The staff, especially the waiter, was very welcoming and made me feel right at home. I'll definitely be back soon to try more of their dishes!

Personally, I love restaurants that aren’t typically cookie cutter. Bombay Restaurant has its own vibe. It’s in a not current modern decor (pretty sure it’s an old school dinner) within a busy truck stop. Service was pleasant. The food was fantastic. Lots of vegetarian options. We got 3 entrees, side of rice and naan. It was plenty for the 3 of us. It’s worth a visit and definitely going to be eating here again.

This place is amazing. It’s not upscale but definitely has the flavor profile to be one. I got lamb curry and chai tea. Both were really good. Unlike other places, they actually cut the meat up into bit size pieces with no bones so that was nice. Overall 10/10. Bathrooms were clean. Btw they no longer do buffets. Edit: 2nd trip. Got the chicken tandoori. I forgot to take a pic when I first got it cause I was so hungry. It’s freaking amazing. Yogurt marinaded chicken. Got a side of rice to go with it and my usual chai tea. 10/10 for this dish. Will be back next week to try something else Edit: 3rd trip (I’ve actually came here more but I haven’t documented it) I got lamb curry. I was going to try a new one but I remember I liked it a lot the first time I got it. I also got the vegetable samosa which is similar to this Japanese croquettes but with a tougher shell. Dipped it into this sweet and the green sauce is medium spice so I asked for both inside. Saving one to go eat later. Overall experience was great. Although they are packed In here I got the food within 15 minutes which is great. 10/10 this visit 4th trip: Today I got the medium spice lamb biryani, lamb curry like usual and chai tea. The food is great. The biryani actually doesn’t have nuts or raisins so that was nice. You can add some if you like but this version tastes great. The lamb cube is super tender and melts in your mouth. See you at the next trip. Will try something completely new. But jeez the lamb curry is fire. Probably my last review cause I forgot to take a pic before I ate my lamb curry. This is officially my favorite dish here. Everything is always consistently great. Never had an issue at this restaurant. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Service is great here and all the Indian brothers are respectful, nice and accommodating. They make sure you get your values worth when it comes to food. Trip # infinity. Not sure now how many times I’ve been here but I for sure come here once a week. Got to try this vegetable curry with cheese. The flavor definitely had vegetable flavor and the cheese was delicious as well. I personally like meat dishes so I’m going to be sticking to my lamb curry. But I will definitely say that my vegetarian people will love this curry. Garlic nan was amazing. It’s freshly made and the garlic was full flavor. Will be back again
